Job Title Assistant Director of Creative Content (Salary Range: $85K-$95K)
Laboratory / Department Development Office
Department Description
The Rockefeller University is one of the world's leading biomedical research universities, with a singular commitment to advancing science for the benefit of humanity. Our groundbreaking discoveries in basic and clinical research are transforming medicine. Rockefeller's 35-member Development Office raises over $100 million a year for biomedical research. The office has a collegial and collaborative ethos, with staff who are in close communication with one another and work together toward common goals. The University is currently in a five-year Capital Campaign seeking to raise $675 million.
Detailed Description
Expertly designed and written materials are an essential component of the initiatives, events, and outreach efforts of The Rockefeller University Development Office. The newly hired Assistant Director will help to conceptualize, write, design, and implement a diversity of materials to help raise funds and tell compelling scientific stories to a lay audience, including benefactors and prospective donors. This includes donor reports, proposals, brochures, presentations, invitations, films, and websites. The ideal candidate has a facility with language and can communicate in a variety of formats, from pithy web content and video scripts to longer concept papers that describe new scientific funding opportunities. While the Assistant Director will work closely with, and report directly to, the Director of Creative Content, they will have the opportunity to collaborate with the entire Development Office, as well as interact with other Rockefeller offices and laboratories. Because Rockefeller is a biomedical research university, a keen interest in science is essential. Targeted salary is $85,000 to $95,000.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree required; candidates with advanced degrees are encouraged. Strong writing is the primary skill required and a strong interest or background in science. Four or more years of experience in related fields (e.g., journalism, development writing, speech writing, preparation of programmatic materials, such as brochures and websites). Exceptional attention to details and deadlines and strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. An interest in, and an ability to prepare, professional-looking materials for a sophisticated audience. An ability to work with diverse personalities in a fast-paced environment is required.
