Job Title Bioinformatics Specialist (Salary Range: $60K - $80K)

Laboratory / Department Laboratory of Molecular Biology

Department Description

Research in the laboratory of molecular biology aims to identify the genes, circuits, cells, macromolecular assemblies and individual molecules that contribute to the function and dysfunction of the mammalian brain. Scientists in the laboratory of molecular biology have developed a suite of novel approaches based on the manipulation of bacterial artificial chromosomes (BACs) to investigate the histological and functional complexities of the mammalian brain in vivo and to understand how these mechanisms become dysfunctional in disease.

Detailed Description

Our lab seeks a highly motivated Bioinformatics Specialist to work on a project that studies Huntington's disease; our goal being the identification of novel strategies that will slow the progression of the disease. The person who will join our team will be responsible for large-scale genomic/transcriptomic data management and will work with another bioinformatics professional, staff programmer and experimental biologists to maximize impact. The candidate will review as well as develop new code to continuously improve computational pipelines such as those used to analyze RNAseq, ChIP-Seq and bisulfite/ oxidative bisulfite sequencing (BS/oxBSseq) data. The targeted salary is $60,000 to $80,000.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Genomics or ability to demonstrate experience and skills in Computational Biology is required. Must be highly creative and motivated, and have a solid bioinformatics background, including familiarity with open-source bioinformatics tools/ databases, next generation sequence alignment for RNAseq, ATACseq, BSseq and oxBSseq experiments, single-cell RNAseq, clustering, differential expression analysis, quality assurance processes, statistical analysis, and methods for data visualization. As this job is both a service position and an opportunity to develop new approaches for data analysis, fluency in R/python and Unix is mandatory.
