Organization Overview

The newly-created Data Science Resource Center (DSRC) will be responsible for supporting and advancing the research objectives of Rockefeller University's faculty and staff by providing training and consultative support in the field of data science - especially in the areas of machine learning and artificial intelligence (ML/AI).

Overview

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, and working with faculty, staff, and members of other resource centers, the inaugural Director of the DSRC will recruit and manage a small team that will identify and work closely with internal and external resources to determine how to most effectively support University researchers' needs for applying ML/AI and/or statistical approaches to new and existing data sets across a wide variety of disciplines, including structural biology, imaging, microscopy, omics, neuroscience, immunology/virology, and the physical sciences.

Responsibilities

The Group will consult on experimental design and best usage, with an emphasis on best practices for proper analysis and reproducibility.

Responsibilities include:

  • recruit and manage DSRC staff, provide consultative services to researchers develop and lead training/classes in ML/AI fundamentals and techniques adapt and evolve training to best serve the changing needs of the research community identify, improve, and/or create appropriate training data sets for ML/AI projects;

  • advise researchers and collaborators on model selection and implementation maintain awareness of advances in the field and their applicability to problems of interest to members of Rockefeller's research community develop and manage operational budget, including cost-recovery objectives for the group participating in and staffing regularly scheduled advisory committee meetings Interacting with faculty advisory committee to address issues and anticipate needs of the faculty and research community interact with the heads of University Resource Centers as needed on issues of common interest;

  • participate in outreach and development opportunities on behalf of the DSRC, including grant applications additional duties;

  • special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

M.S. required, Ph.D. preferred in data science, computer science, statistical genetics, or other related quantitative fields.

A minimum of four years of experience with Python and/or R. At least two years of supervisory experience is needed.

Must possess expert knowledge of concepts and techniques in machine learning AI, including decision trees, k-NN, linear regression, etc. Must possess expert knowledge of supervised and unsupervised learning methods, probabilistic graphical models, etc. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
