Organization Overview
The Laboratory of Molecular Electron Microscopy, headed by Dr. Thomas Walz, is interested in processes that involve biological membranes. Currently, the lab focuses on understanding how the membrane environment affects the structure and function of membrane proteins. Towards this goal, the lab applies cryo-electron microscopy to image membrane proteins in custom-designed lipid environments, aiming to visualize their dynamics and to determine their structures at the atomic level.
Overview
The Research Assistant would support the lab with molecular biology and biochemistry pursuant to structure-function analyses of immunoreceptors.
Responsibilities
Job responsibilities mainly include:
Maintaining eukaryotic cell culture lines
Expressing and purifying proteins for structural and functional assays
Cloning genes into expression systems
Preparing reagents and disposables as needed
Perfomring related duties and responsibilities as assigned/ requested
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required. Preferred qualifications include a year or more of laboratory experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, protein expression and purification, eukaryotic cell culture, and/or structural biology.
