Department Description
The ultimate objective of the work in my laboratory is to understand the cellular and molecular basis of vertebrate embryonic induction, with a special emphasis on germ layer and organ formation. Toward this aim we perform comparative studies using both amphibian and mammalian model systems, including human embryonic stem cells.
Detailed Description
The Research Assistant will work as part of a team engaged in a variety of projects related to human embryonic stem cell research. Reporting to postdoctoral researchers, responsibilities will include culturing stem cells, performing molecular techniques, microscopy imaging, and data analysis.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in science required; educational emphasis in biology, biophysics, or biochemistry preferred. Previous experience in programming is desirable. Must have outstanding organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work in order to carry out complex experiments with attention to detail. Must demonstrate accuracy in record-keeping and the ability to organize, analyze, and calculate data. Must possess excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills, as well as the ability to interact effectively in a collaborative work environment. Must be amenable to changing work schedules that prioritize experiments and routinely go beyond the standard 9 to 5 workday, occasionally including weekend hours.
