Rockefeller University Research Assistant (Salary Range: $46K-$50K) in New York, New York
Job Title Research Assistant (Salary Range: $46K-$50K)
Laboratory / Department Laboratory of Molecular Biology
Research in the laboratory of molecular biology aims to identify the genes, circuits, cells, macromolecular assemblies and individual molecules that contribute to the function and dysfunction of the mammalian brain. Scientists in the laboratory of molecular biology have developed a suite of novel approaches based on the manipulation of bacterial artificial chromosomes (BACs) to investigate the histological and functional complexities of the mammalian brain in vivo and to understand how these mechanisms become dysfunctional in disease.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to work on a project that will study the molecular basis of selective cellular vulnerability in Huntington's disease. The goal of this project is to identify novel strategies to delay onset and/or slow progression of the disease. The person who will join our team will be responsible for the preparation of human brain samples (FFPE or frozen) for chromogenic and fluorescent immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization. The opportunity to learn cutting-edge tissue-clearing techniques for 3D histology as well as an opportunity to learn how to operate a modern light-sheet microscope will be available. Targeted salary is $46,000 to $50,000.
Bachelor's degree required. Experience embedding and sectioning tissue is required as is familiarity with brightfield and confocal microscopes. Other responsibilities of the job include preparing solutions, performing routine stains, cover slipping slides and data entry. Familiarity with quantitative tissue analysis software such as Fiji (ImageJ) or HALO Imaging Software is a plus. Candidate must be organized, have good communication skills, and keep clear, accurate records.
