Rockefeller University Research Assistant in New York, New York

Job: IRC23109

Job Title Research Assistant

Laboratory / Department Laboratory of Molecular Biology

Department Description

Research in the laboratory of molecular biology aims to identify the genes, circuits, cells, macromolecular assemblies and individual molecules that contribute to the function and dysfunction of the mammalian brain. Scientists in the laboratory of molecular biology have developed a suite of novel approaches based on the manipulation of bacterial artificial chromosomes (BACs) to investigate the histological and functional complexities of the mammalian brain in vivo and to understand how these mechanisms become dysfunctional in disease.

Detailed Description

The Research Assistant will work on a project that will study the molecular basis of selective cellular vulnerability in Huntington's disease. The ultimate goal of this project is to identify novel strategies to delay the onset and/or slow the progression of Huntington's disease. The Research Assistant will prepare human brain samples from donor tissue and use established profiling assays such as ATAC-Seq, bisulfite-Seq and Ox-bisulfite-Seq to elucidate the epigenetic properties of the DNA. The Research Assistant will prepare genetic material for BeadChip methylation assays and trinucleotide repeat sizing, and will work with contract testing laboratories to ensure proper amounts of sample and control materials are sent.

Job Requirements
