Job Information
Rockefeller University Research Assistant in New York, New York
Job: IRC27968
Description
Job Title Research Assistant
Laboratory / Department Laboratory of Molecular Biology
Department Description
Research in the laboratory of molecular biology aims to identify the genes, circuits, cells, macromolecular assemblies and individual molecules that contribute to the function and dysfunction of the mammalian brain. Scientists in the laboratory of molecular biology have developed a suite of novel approaches based on the manipulation of bacterial artificial chromosomes (BACs) to investigate the histological and functional complexities of the mammalian brain in vivo and to understand how these mechanisms become dysfunctional in disease.
Detailed Description
The goal of the project is to identify novel strategies to delay the onset and/or slow progression of Huntingdon's disease. The Research Assistant will be responsible for the preparation of human brain samples for next-generation sequencing. Specific tasks include subcellular fractionation, isolation of cell components with antibodies or DNA probes (via FACs), RNA extraction, cDNA preparation, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and library preparation. Familiarity with established profiling assays such as ATAC-Seq, bisulfite-Seq, and Ox-bisulfite-Seq to elucidate the epigenetic properties of the DNA is a plus. Additional responsibilities will include preparing genetic material for trinucleotide repeat sizing.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's Degree is required; educational emphasis in neuroscience or biology preferred. Previous experience with RNA isolation and in situ hybridization is a plus. Familiarity with established profiling assays such as ATAC-Seq, bisulfite-Seq, and Ox-bisulfite-Seq to elucidate the epigenetic properties of the DNA is a plus. Must have excellent computer skills and familiarity with NCBI database tools. Must be organized, have excellent communication skills, and keep clear accurate records.
