Job Title Research Assistant

Laboratory / Department Insect Social Evolution

Department Description

Our Laboratory studies social evolution and behavior within complex societies. The sophisticated behavior, communication, and division of labor within ant colonies make these social insects ideal model systems for this work. Our lab uses an integrative approach to understand how natural selection shapes the evolution of insect societies and how social life is regulated at the level of genes, brains, individuals, and colonies.

Detailed Description

The Research Assistant will participate in different ongoing projects to generate mutant and transgenic lines in ants. Will be responsible for DNA cloning, RNA synthesis, embryo injections, ant rearing, and genotyping.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in science required; educational emphasis in molecular biology or neuroscience preferred. Must be highly motivated and driven by scientific curiosity. Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, molecular biology experience, and a strong interest in insects, specifically ants.
