Job Title Research Assistant

Our work focuses on several different aspects of molecular virology, biochemical and structural virology, viral pathogenesis and vaccine development. The laboratory studies animal RNA viruses, including hepatitis C virus (HCV), yellow fever virus (prototype flavivirus), bovine viral diarrhea virus (a pestivirus) and Sindbis virus (a togavirus).
The Research Assistant will assist with experiments related to the characterization of the binding and neutralization efficacy of pan-coronavirus antibodies as part of a Virology and Animal Models Core for a multi-PI project. Responsibilities include generation of coronavirus (including SARS-CoV-2) viral and packaged replicon stocks, development and performance of in vitro neutralization assays using human or animal sera or cloned antibodies, and performance of immunization and protection experiments in small animal models (mouse and hamster). Will also be responsible for record keeping of project related experiments, and maintenance and upkeep of the BSL3 lab in support of the project.
Bachelor's degree in science required; educational emphasis in biology or virology preferred. Must have experience with sterile technique, mammalian cell culture, and working with pathogens. Working with viruses at Biosafety Levels 2 and 3 a plus. Must be mature, detailed oriented, organized, possess excellent written and oral communication skills, and be willing to work both independently and as a team member. Must be willing to work with live viruses, radioactivity, small animals, experimentally required chemicals, and be physically able to follow biocontainment rules.
